Pointless Rambling

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 21, 2008, 5:45 AM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and Faith Hill
  • Reading: The Hobbit -- J.R.R. Tolkien + Fruits Basket
  • Watching: Fruits Basket
  • Drinking: Water
Yeah, I kind of need to put a new journal up; that way I can give you my new excuses on why I've been absent (again). But first...

Tagged by: :iconpaingainer: (see, I read the journals, I just don't comment on them [deviations first, replying and journals later])
1.Write these rules.
2.Each tagged person must write 8 things about he/her-self.
3.And he/she has to write a journal about these things.
4.Finally he/she has to tag other 8 people.
5.Go to their dA's page and write they've been tagged.

1. The first novel I ever fully read (novel as in 150+ pages) was Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel.

2. The first novel that I read and completely fell in love with was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (which is interesting because I read and comprehended that book in grade six).

3. I absolutely hated reading and writing up until sixth grade where I finished my first novel and loved it.

4. Oftentimes I stop reading a book because I want to read a different book instead; I generally never return to the series/book after I've stopped reading it.

5. Guitar was the first instrument I ever played and enjoyed, it was also the first instrument I ever played in my free time, just the for enjoyment of it.

6. My guitar is the only instrument I've ever owned that I actually wanted (unfortunately I don't play anymore).

7. I actually stopped playing guitar because my teacher intimidated me and my friend kept trying to out do me when he started playing (I didn't like the competition, especially for something I was never naturally good at [I was never musically inclined, it took a lot of discipline for me to try and learn it period]).

8. I started playing guitar originally to get closer to my dad and his side of the family (most of them are very musical and the guitar is one of my dad's biggest passions [my dad figures I'll be like him, he dropped the guitar several times before he actually began playing frequently for his own enjoyment; I do want to start playing again one day, though]).

Artistic facts, how fun. Also, I tag no one, I feel most people are too annoyed when you tag them (I don't mind, myself; tag my if you want to); so yeah, do it if you want. :D

Obviously, school is keeping my hands full, but it shouldn't be as bad soon; we're just getting out of midterms now. My math midterm still haunts me, though I got 10.35/15, which isn't bad, but it's not great either... So school, busy, yes... Geography, sucks, projects...*dead* Oh, and my math teacher, Mrs. Cyr, just finished reading Twilight (my fault :P) and loved it.

Speaking of Twilight, is it just me or is like, no one else just not excited for the next book or the movie? I know the movie will just make me die a little inside (though I still want to take the caravan of people to the nearest big theater to watch the movie, including two of favourite teachers who've read the book) and the next book just seems like it's going to be predictable to me... Oh well, moving on.

I'm undergoing a lifestyle change right now (of my own choice). I'm planning to exercise more and eat better; right now I'm not the healthiest (or unhealthiest) person in the world. I've just been noticing I don't eat the best so now I'm make healthier food choices (like drinking water instead of juice or pop) and I'm eating more fruits and (grudgingly) vegetables. It'll be good for my health which I'm sure I often mistreat.

Plus, I plan to start exercising more as I do very little now. I'm going to start walking, biking, and running more to be a little more fit and prepare myself for Outers next year. Outers is a course my school offers where you learn survival skills out in the bush during all the seasons and do some pretty wicked things in small brigades (really small brigades, actually, the number of people joining the course each year gets smaller each year due to growing laziness in youth; plus many drop out sometime during the actual course). The girls and guys take separate routes that usually meet up somewhere (the guys' routes are generally longer because of testosterone); then once you're separated gender wise, you're put into brigades consisting of three or four (they used to be bigger, but things happen). The experience of Outers is long, hard, and sucks the entire way through (so I've been told), but once you're done, the memories are the best and you wouldn't trade 'em for the world. Plus, I definitely have to complete Outers; it'll be one of the few things I'll do that my sister hasn't (Sam isn't for that sort of thing). That's one thing that I'll have that she'll never have, which makes me happy (I generally have to live in the shadow of Sam's academic achievements in school; she's a natural genius, I'm average :P); plus I'll be one of the few women in my family to actually complete the course (I only think one of my aunties have completed it). Big step for me, I'd say.

I think I might also start doing some weight lifting for the simple fact that I'm naturally tall and brawny, without a doubt I'll have to carry my brigade's canoe (well, part of it). Though I'm a little worried that I might get paired with some of my friends in a brigade which is something that the staff tries to avoid because this course can split the strongest of friendships apart (it literally tests you to your limits); and since the number of people going in each year continues to dwindle... It's a scary thought in all honesty. So yeah, I'm changing my lifestyle a bit for health and survival.

Next year I also plan to join student council because it'll look good on my record for when I apply to university; though I don't know how much I'll like it. It's a very extroverted sort of thing, organizing dances and things of such nature. Ew. Maybe I just want to make my grade eleven ridiculously busy...

Reading has been taking up a lot of my spare time recently, which I am very happy for. I haven't been reading a lot lately, but now I'm spending a huge amount of time doing so which is leaving me thrilled. I've missed it, but I just didn't have it in me... I'm happy though, I am rereading The Hobbit at the moment, then I'm going to read The Lord of the Rings for the first time. This kind of happened after I had an urge to watch movies then I watched them and realized... That was the first time I actually paid attention to the plot. Sad, eh? Every time before that it was all about the hack and slash and the boring stuff in between. XD Granted, I was very immature the last time I actually watched the movies (I'd only watched them twice each and that was awhile back). I've also noticed how prejudiced I've been towards Legolas up until now; I resented him before because I hated his fanbase (which consisted mostly of women who thought he was hot) and I was a natural Gimli fan. I like him better now, because I'm taking him in for the first time with an open mind; though Orlando Bloom's fanbase still bothers me to an extent (does no one care for the acting anymore? He has a pretty face, so what?). So yeah, I'm reading LotR, yay me.

Speaking of books, I finished a really weird one about a week ago. It was called Grist, by Heather Waldorf, all I can say: Messed up twist! There's a twist about two thirds of the way through the book that totally throws you off, like you don't even see it coming. All you know is there's something weird between the two main characters who love each other, but nobody tells them what it is; but when they do it is such a dumbfounding moment. I totally cried though after the twist was revealed and explains some things; what this one person does is complete and total commitment and it kind of touches your heart... But I'll stop now, not a bad teen novel though, if you're looking for one.

I've also started a new anime/manga series (after making a deal with a friend that if I watch and read this seires, they'd watch Ouran; which by the way is being dubbed by Funimation! It might still be really good in English, oh how I hope Vic Mignogna gets to play Tamaki... That would make my day...) called Fruits Basket. If you haven't heard of this series, go slap yourself in the face; it's absolutely fantastic. It's also got a good English dub, which surprised me; only one characters voice (so far) has completely annoyed the crap out of me (unfortunately is belongs to the main heroine...). Chris Sabat doing voices for feminine characters is one of the best things in the entire universe, ever (Sabat is the voice of Major Armstrong in the English FMA for example). The best characters are definitely Shigure, Ayame, Hatori, and Hatsuharu, Hatsuharu (or Haru for short) is my favourite, but maybe that's because he's like, two characters in one. I adore Haru's English voice too, it makes me happy when he shows up (which is quite often, so it's all good). But honestly, Fruits Basket is very similar to Ouran High School Host Club; you can't help but love almost the entire cast of characters and the ridiculous teen love plot filled with hilarity. It's a series I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a good laugh; I've only read four volumes and watched 17 episodes and I'm hooked... I have a site with all the English episodes if you guys want it. :D

Lately I've noticed that books make me more emotional than movies. I've seen tons of sad movies that cause many people to burst out in tears while I just sit there feeling depressed, but when I read something just as (or less) depress/sad, I almost always cry. Sometimes it even happens when I read something too happy... Damn you literature, having a more powerful affect on me and reaching my emotional side. :shakefist: I really am a bit softy when I read something sad (never mind, I almost cried reading something about WWII the other day which wasn't even as bad as the movie we watched in class). I guess that's a sign that if you can get me to cry with your writing, you have talent. :XD:

Oh, another good book! The Elephant Man, read it. Just do it. I cried like a baby during that book so many times, it's so touching. It's very interesting too; John Merrick was an amazing man. I feel for him, I wish he'd had a better life considering the intelligent and poetic soul he had. But seriously, just read that book, you won't regret it. It's very touching and you have to remember, it's a true story. I've all ready read it twice because I love it so much, I must buy a copy. But seriously, it is very touching and amazing to see how a man of great spirit overcame some seemingly impossible odds and was finally granted peace. The novel is written by Christine Sparks and it's just called The Elephant Man. You can read up on John Merrick (his real name is Joseph Merrick, there was a mistake when the accounted the story after the doctor who cared for him remembered his name incorrectly when he wrote about him) over the net, Wikipedia has a lot of information on him and picture of him so you can see the disease he suffered from. Joseph Merrick is one of my heroes and he's pretty damn high on that list.

Eating up my time, I have to admit as well, is of course, Dungeons and Dragons. My friend started a new campaign and I was ecstatic to say the least. I'm the ranger and I kick ass, we had our first play a few hours ago. I fell into the ocean, but jumped out like a dolphin and saved our cleric (the arrogant bastard, by race, though) from drowning (I expertly threw a rope to him and pulled him aboardthe ship we both failed a balance check on). Though I ended up shooting my foot with my bow when I rolled a one later. ^^; But I ended up saving our fighter by bring down the water elemental to three HP before it could attack again. Go me! We then went to "Satan's Palace", which was supposed to be the Sultan's Palace (desert campaign), but due to a spelling error we ended up in hell. Satan's cool though, but our Cleric seems to want to chain him to a bed with the manacles he bought... (inside joke) Then we had to end the game though because it was getting late and our rogue had to go home. I love D&D, though this is probably the last game I'll get to play in year unless I meet D&D nerds when I go off to school (here's hoping).

It was pretty great though, apparently it was 4/20 yesterday which is apparently national pot day, so Joe's (the person whose house we were playing D&D at) brother came over stoned. It was hilarious and sad at the same time. There were muffins on the table and he walks up and stares at them for like a minute and said "Muffins..." in the funniest whisper ever. We later convinced him that DM (which means dungeon master, thus that person controls the D&D game) stood for "Donkey Minister", it was great. He then started to watch Tyler play guitar hero; it was funny. Though I still don't support drugs, no matter how much fun it is to mess with stoned people.

Also, I tried playing a little bit of World of Warcraft yesterday; I don't see why it's such a loved game. It didn't give me any enjoyment, all it did was hurt my eyes, give me back pain, and tensed up my wrists. Obviously if you played it enough you'd start to like it, but overall it was just dumb. You spend the entire time trying to level up to level seventy, then once you get to level seventy you just run around killing things. I didn't like it though, I won't be playing again; it didn't seem engaging enough anyway, plus I have no intention of getting addicted. *has an addictive personality* Overall, I say don't play it if you haven't all ready, people get way into that game to the point where their minds can only focus on it alone and it's not even anything productive. Not to mention the fact that people get really drawn into the game and sometimes you lose friendships, I should know, I lost a friend to W.O.W.; remember, friends don't let friends do W.O.W., fact.

And finally, I am commenting and such now (moving slowly right now), but I've gotten some done. I am getting towards the deviants whose names start with "K"s and I have to backtrack on a few deviants and comment on some deviations I just didn't know what to say for. Regardless, though, I will comment; but I am ignoring my messages for the time being (that way I comment first), though I have read some of them (I read all the journals, always, even if I don't comment). So I'm getting there, slowly... Very slowly.

All right, I'm out. Sorry if this journal doesn't make too much sense; I started writing it at 4:30am ish and it's 7:40am now. The sky outside is brightening right now so I'm a little bit late to bed... Oh well, I'm out for now. Hope you guys are going good.
